Taxi vs Uber in Paris: What’s the Best Way to Get Around?

Getting around Paris can be a joy—or a bit of a challenge—depending on how you choose to travel. While public transport is efficient, sometimes you want the comfort and convenience of a car, especially with luggage or after a long night out. That’s where taxis and Uber come in. But which one should you choose?

Here’s a breakdown of taxis vs Uber in Paris, to help you decide what works best for your trip.

Availability & Ease of Use

Uber operates widely in Paris and is often the go-to choice for international travelers. If you already use the Uber app, it’s a familiar, cashless experience. You simply open the app, enter your destination, and wait for your ride—usually within a few minutes.

Parisian taxis, on the other hand, are also easy to find, especially near tourist spots, train stations, and taxi stands. You can hail one in the street or call for pickup via the G7 or Taxis Parisien apps, which have improved the convenience factor significantly in recent years.

💡 Hack: If you're in a quieter neighborhood or late at night, Uber may arrive faster than finding an available taxi.

Pricing: Flat Rates vs Dynamic Pricing

One big difference lies in how you’re charged.

Taxis in Paris use a meter, with official flat rates for airport rides:

  • €55 from Charles de Gaulle to Right Bank
  • €62 to the Left Bank
  • €35–41 from Orly, depending on the bank

Taxis also charge extra for things like luggage, night hours (after 7 pm), and additional passengers.

Uber, by contrast, uses dynamic pricing. During busy times (rainy days, rush hour, or strikes), prices can surge significantly. That said, you always see the fare before you confirm the ride, and there are no surprise fees for luggage or nighttime.

Comfort and Car Options

Both Uber and taxis offer clean, comfortable rides—but Uber gives you more choice. You can select UberX, Uber Green, Uber Berline (luxury), or Uber Van for groups. Traditional taxis are typically standardized sedans, though G7 does offer premium options like G7 VIP or G7 Van via their app.

💡 Tip: For a guaranteed English-speaking driver, G7 lets you request one when booking.

Payment

Uber is entirely digital—no need for cash, and tipping is optional but easy via the app.

Taxis accept credit cards by law, but not all drivers follow this strictly. Always ask before your ride begins, or stick to app-based bookings for a more secure experience.

You can also download the G7 App (available for both Android and iPhone) to book your taxi in advance.

Airport Transfers

For airport pickups, taxis offer flat, predictable rates with no waiting fee. But Uber can be cheaper outside peak hours. Just remember that Uber pickups at Charles de Gaulle are only allowed at designated spots, and wait times can vary.

Personally, I almost always use taxi when I want to reach Paris from the airport. When I see there is too much people, I launch the G7 App and I book my taxi so I don't have to wait for a free taxi for too long. During night, Uber can be a cheaper choice.
